In 2010, 32 percent of the site's users said they'd date someone in an open relationship.
The start-up, which promises to “eliminate the monotony of monogamy”, claims it has tapped into the "growing trend towards polyamory", the forming of intimate relationships with more than one person.
More than 40pc of marriages in the UK now end in divorce and the figure rises to 50pc in the US.
"As more people realize that the life-long monogamy model doesn't work most of the time, people are opening their minds to alternative relationship styles," she said.
"Gender equality as well as an increase in acceptance of alternative sexualities are also helping to advance us and break away from old paradigms of how to love and connect to each other."Polyamory, like monogamy, isn't for everyone.
